Other weapons, of various uses, i might keep in reach.. Irons for the (non-existent) fireplace, baseball bats, swords on the wall.. I'd have to hope sounds of breaking locks might give a few seconds warning, and that the kids are well trained enough to know where to run/hide, while I try to cover their escape.. Certainly, it is Dad's place to die, in these circumstances
